So what is this all about? How can a Chiropractor help with your jaw pain?
I had the wonderful opportunity to work on a patient whose profession is working on show horses all day. She rides, trains them to jump, and compete. All horse people fall off of their horses from time to time. This particular patient works with a spirited show horse and fell off and landed on her jaw. She had been living with this pain for over a year and tried all sorts of therapy that didn't work. Then she heard, "maybe a Chiropractor could help"? That's how I met her. I did my full spine exam on her and setup a treatment plan and started care. It wasn't till after I adjusted her that she mentioned her intense TMJ pain and discomfort. It was like kinda, "by the way do you work on TMJ joints"? I told her yes, and we examined her TMJ joints. The patient presented with a "S" curved Subluxated Jaw. In Chiropractic terms I had to adjust both sides.
When she returned for her second visit, we adjusted her full spine and focused in on her Jaw, "TMJ Joints". She reported it felt much better and was able to chew without intense pain. We examined it again and she present a "C" shaped Subluxated jaw. Once again in Chiropractic terms we only had to adjust one TMJ Joint. We adjusted the joint again and away she went.
On her third visit of our care plan we adjusted the subluxated area's of her spine, and this time when I examined her Jaw and it wasn't subluxated, it was perfect. I told her this and she expressed to me she knew and didn't want to tell me and was just testing me to see what I had to say. Her Jaw was pain free. The patient reported, "my teeth just fit".
